Tips of bars in Berlin
text by: Jenny Radeiski
You just relocated to Berlin, whether you rent an apartment in Berlin or outside of the city. But once you are all set the fun begins and you can enjoy the bar and nightlife in Berlin. Here are some selected bar-locations of the city. There is nothing that does not exist as a bar with a grandiose view or the “Kiez”-bar around the corner.
Bars with a special view
From the beginning the Monkey Bar on the roof of the 25 Hours Hotel Bikini Berlin is a hotspot. Especially on weekends the queues are still long. It is not surprising as you get a grandiose view. It is really worth it. From the surrounding terrace on the tenth floor you can see the Tiergarten and on the other hand you can see the new city west around the Gedächtniskirche. The cocktail menu is inspired by the jungle motive - exotic, classic and solidly prepared. However, waiting times are to be expected, the service stuff cannot always master the crowd.

Lounge-Feeling over the roof from Mitte
If you cannot get enough of roof terraces, where you beside drinks get also a great view, you have the choice in Berlin. The Amano Hotel on Augustenstraße is a nice and uncomplicated rooftop Bar - the TV tower at Alexanderplatz seems so close. Cozy lounge furniture with lots of pillows invite you to relax. On the sofas sit a lot of international middle-class people. At the Amano is the focus mainly on classic drinks. The bartenders are experienced and prepare the drinks fast, the result looks pretty, colorful and is freshly dressed with herbs. Also the taste of the cocktails is very reasonable and prices are in the middle area. A place to chill out and heading relaxed back to your rented apartment in Berlin.

The Bar heaven over Berlin
In the sunset red, the center of the Skybar gets a romantic look and not only the TV tower at Alexandrplatz looks much smaller, also the everyday life seems very far away. Rooftop bars are a must, and the Skybar at Andel’s - located on the 14th floor above the star restaurant “Skykitchen” - is no exception. The guests sit on soft lounge furniture in retro look. The menu includes classics such as “The Aviation” - a drink from Gin, Maraschino liqueur and Crème de Violette and lemon juice - to match Berlin variations of classic ecclesiastics. I recommend to order a classic variant and enjoy the city from above and maybe you will discover your rented apartment from a bird’s-eye perspective.

Fine cocktail art
The Victoria Bar is one of the main addresses of lovers of fine cocktail art in Berlin. If you sit down at the long, long counter, you can not only watch the bartenders while mixing and shaking, but also get to know a lot. Here is the motto: “Come on, just a sip for daddy.” There is not the slightest doubt about the expertise of the bartenders. This is what attracts the visitors, who come not only from Berlin to Potsdamer Straße. In October it starts again - with an evening around the Martini.

Traditional cocktails
A cool bar with feeling-good factor - “Limonadier” hint at the late 19th century, when the bartenders were preparing to replace the lemonade makers. Behind the bar, professional bartenders prepare great cocktails for long Kreuzberger nights. The selection of spirits, self-made liqueurs and syrups is impressive and the menu witness to the passion for bar culture. It is sorted according to the alcoholic basis: everything from Gin to Mezcal to Vodka. In addition to classics there are fine reinterpretations. The vodka mix drink “Berlin at Night” with rosemary syrup and chilli tastes like the city itself.

Adventurous drinks
The called Wrangelkiez is one of Berlin’s favorite of cocktail adresses. This is due to the “Schwarzen Traube”, behind whose bar counter whirls a master of his compartment. Atalay Aktas mixed drinks testify to ability, creativity and a trace of adventure. The bartender has already won great international awards with his drinks. The interior of Schwarzen Traube looks like classy trash - empty picture frames on brick, wallpapers with pompous patterns, velvet-covered seating furniture from the junk. There is no menu. The service explains which drinks are on the daily shortlist and individual wishes will be served. It might be the master in mix drinks.

Cocktail art behind the green door
In the called Winterfeldt-Kiez is the Green Door a classic: the bar with the green door has been a trendy address for lovers of sophisticated cocktail art for 20 years. If you want to enter, first you must ring at the doorbell - after all, the space is limited. At the super-long bar of the well-arranged bar area, you will hear discussions about life in general and fine drinks in particular. Guests are relaxed and open, and smoking is allowed. The difference is made by the bartenders of the Green Door who are masters of their subject and they share their knowledge of bar culture. In addition to the offered classics, there are also individual variations on request and special creations under the motto “Curiosities”. For example, the “GinGin Bash”, a refreshing, fine mix of Tanqueray, elderberry blossom, ginger, basil, lemon, ginger beer and a touch of Szechuan pepper. Great art!

Now your very own Bar hopping adventure can begin and I hope you find back in your rented apartment. My last suitable words here: PROST!
